FHSR EDUCATION COORDINATOR PROGRAM
FHSR has created the Education Coordinator program specifically to support the parents, caregivers and hearing loss professionals of deaf and hard of hearing children. You are your child’s best advocate; we can provide the resources you need to help your student succeed.
The FHSR Education Coordinator serves as a resource for parents and their children living with hearing loss to assist in the transition to school, class placement, technology, paperwork, services, and accommodations. The Coordinators educates parents and caregivers on how best to partner with their school district to make sure their child(ren)’s educational needs are being met and provides additional support on special topics, including the use of hearing technology in the learning environment. The Education Coordinator can work with you and your school team to ensure best practices around education of students with hearing loss are being followed.Â
The FHSR Education Coordinator is also available as a resource to professionals serving students or clients with hearing loss in the community.Â
Services are available for children with hearing loss from birth to 22 years old. FHSR understands the many burdens having a child with a disability can place on a family – these services are provided at no cost to the families and school partners.Â
If you are a parent, caregiver or hearing loss professional who needs resources on your DHH child’s best school placement, services or accommodations, the FHSR Education Coordinator is here to help you become your child’s best advocate.
Please fill out an intake form below or email Atess@fhsr.org for more information.
Join us for this free workshop for parents and caregivers, designed to foster confidence in story-sharing and literacy development.
FHSR is partnering with Chicago Hearing Society (CHS) to present a workshop for parents and caregivers, focusing on the power of reading and language in the home. The research-based curriculum supports all communication modes and will include methodology, instruction, and hands-on practice related to early literacy and story-sharing skills. With this, parents will become better equipped to support their child and using books to create a language-rich environment within the home.
This workshop is geared for parents with children 2-5 years old.
You probably know that it is important to get an early start on reading with DHH children and that early reading contributes to increased vocabulary, language development, and print awareness. But families report that they are often at a loss when figuring out how to read with their children with hearing loss.
With this curriculum, we can contribute to a new generation of DHH readers and better support early language and literacy milestones.
Each family that attends will be able to get a set of 4 books with characters with hearing loss.
During this workshop, your children will be able to attend an onsite Music To My Ears class with our Early Childhood music partner, The Merit School of Music. Age appropriate siblings are welcome. This information-packed in person workshop will be offered:
Saturday, November 16, 2024
